You grab Mexican thinking its quick and easy. Not this place, food is your average run of the mill Mexican, a little better than average salsa, but margaritas were awful (top shelf ones we got were terrible, awful fake margarita mix opposed to fresh lime juice), and the service was the absolute worst. Our dinner consisted of a specialty guacamole appetizer, fajitas and a kids grilled chicken and two margaritas, took over an hour and a half. If it didn't have an outside patio I don't think this place would stay in business. We certainly won't be back. I suppose we are stuck with the wait at Tacolu until Taqueria del Sol gets to town or the average but speedy La Nopalera.

This place is a great location being within walking distance and the food is good. But the funny thing is, the menu is basically the same as any Tex-Mex restaurant in the USA...and for some crazy reason, they all seem to taste the same! There must be some SOP for Tex-Mex joints...they also have very specialized staff, the funniest is the dude with the arm length oven mit that holds 8 or 9 entrees at once! Anyway, that's my two pesos!

I usually go to the Casa Maria location by my place, but I went with work colleagues for a birthday at this location. We got there fashionably late and were immediately greeted by our waiter. We had two Pina Coladas and they came out quickly and were really delicious. Not too strong and well balanced. We didn't eat because we had already eaten before we came. Good times with friends and great service made for a good time out. One negative: The restrooms need to be updated and fixed badly. They weren't dirty or disgusting, but the doors are way too short for the stalls to be comfortable and the one sink has a faucet that moves so much that it could soak the floor if someone decided to play a practical joke and move it away from the bowl.

Mexican seems to be the one thing that sticks in this location the best (other than Harry's which called this home for a while). Casa Maria is the sister or aunt or daughter or some other female relative of Mr. Napolera. And she's having just as good a time. The chips & salsa are plentiful. The margaritas are flowing. The staff is pleasant and the patio is perfect on a nice day. I've tried the Al Pastor tacos, both the regular and the Casa Maria (covered in cheese) versions. I've had the chimichanga on days I'm feeling a little like Porky and less like Bugs. The queso is always a pleaser, the guacamole leaves a little to be desired. Casa Maria is a great place to meet friends at the beach and it's not too hard to find from JTB for those that are coming from town. Parking can be interesting, but don't give up because there's usually a spot somewhere.

Been coming to this place for years and it's always done me right. The staff is great, the food is excellent, and the drinks are just right. Keep it up!

My family is always looking for "authentic" mexican food. So after the beach one day we decided to try this place out. There was an odd smell when we walked in I couldnt figure it out so It was nice to have outside seating and since we were a little beachy it worked out great... My husband enjoyed the two big screen TV'S outside but there were a million ants around our table, luckily they stayed on the ground. The chips and salsa were very good... I'm picky when it comes to dipping my chips! My husband had one of the dinner plates didn't think there was anything special about it and thought his rice wasn't very good. My son enjoyed his quesadilla but I wish they had more kid friendly drinks besides soda. I enjoyed my California Jr Burrito with no complaints. Definitely worth trying if you're in the neighborhood friendly staff and fast service. 3 stars cause it wasn't spectacular but it definitely wasn't terrible.

So here it goes. We started out at Bone fish. The crowd there was old to say the least. We Felt like outsiders. Uber was triple the rate so we crossed the rainy cold 3rd Street to Casa Maria and we did a shot first snd then a Margarita and a 32 oz beer. Smoking hot fajitas Texas. The grill flavor was perfect. Chips were crispy and addictive. Adonis was our bartender. He was I formative and eager to please.Have to say our Saturday turned out to be a pleasurable surprise. We WILL Be Back FOR sure. So the haters can stay away.

Excellent chips and salsa. Very reasonable price for lunch. Very tasty. I would go back again.

This is my favorite place in town for Mexican. I used to come here from FSCJ South to get my crave on. Casa Maria is located in a quiet plaza with a decent amount of parking spaces. I suggest coming here on weekdays (afternoons - evenings) when it's chill and you can actually get attention from the waiters. I've always gotten good service when I come here. Refills are prompt. I usually order a combo platter and it fills me up. Prices are quite fair. Bathrooms are decent. The place itself is pretty spacious, not including the outdoor seating area which I'm sure is nice at night. Much prefer this place over a certain other Mexican restaurant chain in Jacksonville. Thumbs up from me.

Bad night for Casa Maria. We used to like this place but they were beyond awful tonight. Got our food only after telling the cashier we were about to leave. When it came it wasn't what we ordered and it tasted awful. We had no opportunity to send it back. We just asked the cashier (right next to our booth) to cash us out. We heard at leases three other tables telling them the food was terrible. Hopefully it was just a bad night for them , otherwise this place is our of business by the end of. 2014.

Soo, Casa.. Let's chat: Your food needs more flavor! The few times I've been here I've had to beg for extra limes and even add some salt. Why "beg" for limes? Because - during the day- there is no real bartender or servers with sections. I always sit at the bar but it seems difficult because there isn't someone always standing back there to help you. However, at night there is usually someone more attentive. Timeliness. How could a quesadilla come out in 40 mins? That was just one time, with a near empty house, but the food always seems to take an ungodly amount of time to come out. Drink Pricing. You're a Mexican joint, special your Margs and/or pitchers and not jack up the prices for basically a cup of sour mix. Unless you add more tequila then, whatev. HOWEVER, they do have a fabulous outdoor patio which is awesome with a group of your friends if you're all hanging out having beers, chips and salsa. Also, I just remembered I really like their salsa too.. There you go: go in the summer, sit outside, drink the beer and eat the salsa.

Will never go back!! Food is cold and lacks taste. Waitresses spend more time on their phones than paying attention to customer needs. To many other places at the beach to waste time here!!

Absolutely terrible experience, lunch food was serviced cold, pork, chicken, and beef. I just hope my mother and I do not get sick from getting under temperature meat.

Usually my fav Mexican place at the Beaches, but tonight is awful. Nobody came to wait on us until we had to "remind" them were were here. Then the food took forever. When it got here, it was cold. Fajitas aren't supposed to be cold! Super disappointed right now. :(

Big beers, hot sauce, great service and food. If I lived at the beach, I'd be a regular, a nice place for a bar crawl too. We had a good experience and would recommend this place....if you like hot food. They have some salsa that is will make your eyes cry and is hot enough to melt your tongue, for sure. Well worth a stop on a chilly day, if that is ever the case in Florida....

I only gave 2 stars because 1-1/2 wasn't available. Been meaning to try this place for 2-3 yrs since I live nearby. Went in tonight because I heard some neighbors talking about it at the pool today. Service seemed a little slow. I ordered a fried beef chimichanga and wifey order a shrimp quesadilla. They dropped off chips and homemade salsa while waiting on our food. Pretty mild and a little tomatoey. When our plates arrived the server presented mine as a "chicken chimichanga" so I questioned him and said I ordered beef. He said he made a mistake and would be right back. 3-4 minutes he arrived with just the beef chimichanga and I said where the beans to which he said, you can just keep the chicken plate and eat those. Keep in mind the dish sat untouched from the time he dropped it off so when I tried the beans, you guessed it, "cold"! The chimichanga lacked taste to say the least. Oh well, we were out he door for $26 and I'll likely never go back. It was noisy as all get out with random blasts of more noise like when they sang Mexican happy birthday to another customer. Too many gems at the beach to waste anymore time in this joint...

Everyone is so friendly and the food is great and good prices, very cozy area in their courtyard we just love it there..

Burnt chips once, stale the second visit. Food mediocre, drinks may be 2 for 1 house, but are mostly ice in a small glass. Nothing stands out positive about this place.

I used to come to this place all the time when I lived at the beaches. The food is always good and so is the service. From time to time I still come here from across town.

I've read the other reviews regarding service, and I must say I agree. The service is lacking. I went there this evening, had the Carnitas tacos, and a huge Pacifico beer. I had to request chips and salsa, no big deal. When my food came out I wasn't given any silverware. I finally had to get up and ask the host for a roll. So, even though the food is good the service royally sucks. It doesn't seem like they have the customers interest at heart. As if they do not pride themselves on customer service (based on the negative customer service comments). I'll go back. I just won't tip unless the service is better.

Well the service was actually pretty good contrary to other reviews, but full disclosure we were only 1 of like 4 people there. The food lacks any real taste, every meal is just sort of bland, especially the Salsa. I had the Maria's meal so I got to taste just about everything there. This is good place for drinks though, Margaritas were great and the outside patio is very Welcoming!

What a pleasant surprise! We were looking for a place to get dinner other than the usual fish restaurants at the beaches and drove by Casa Maria. Had no expectations going in and we were really blown out of the water. This place beats tacolu. The chips are hot, the salsas are fresh, everything is very authentic and the ambiance is great. Indoor has great Mexican music and they have an outdoor courtyard area that is quieter. The service was on point all night. I'd suggest getting the fajitas and queso dip. We really enjoyed everything!

My mom and her boyfriend went to this place about a year ago and they not only couldn't do frozen margaritas because the owner left town and "locked" their liquor cabinet. They came back once and said the margaritas were great so they wanted to take my sister and I here for margaritas as we are visiting town. We came in and it was literally the same story. Owner left town to go to atlanta and didn't leave a key to the liquor cabinet, so all they could do were house tequila margaritas on the rocks. Really? Clearly terrible ownership at this place if as an owner, you leave town and can't even trust your staff with the key to the liquor cabinet. We won't be returning, and I can guarantee my mother and her boyfriend (Jax residents) won't be returning as well.

Pretty average mexican but I love the location - after eating here, my husband and I enjoy a long walk on the beach. 2 for 1 Margaritas dont hurt either. I also love their queso. A lot of people don't like it, but I am telling you right now if you are a fan of some cheap white queso along with quick service this is the place for you

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
